PURPOSE:

Adopt a resolution ratifying the Police Chief's execution of a Program-Funded State and Local Task Force Agreement with the Drug Enforcement Administration for the DEA Phoenix Task Force.

BACKGROUND:

The United States Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration is seeking to renew the State and Local Task Force Agreement with Lake Havasu City (Police Department) to assist in disrupting drug trafficking throughout the State of Arizona.  The agreement requires the Lake Havasu City Police Department to assign one (1) officer to the DEA Task Force for a period of not less than two years.  Lake Havasu City (Police Department) will continue to be responsible for the officer’s salary and benefits, and DEA will reimburse for overtime related to task force activities, as well as any associated supplies, training, equipment, and other support items.

This renewal agreement was received on August 8, 2018 with a return deadline of September 3, 2018 to allow ample time to be received at DEA Headquarters for funding to be assigned to the agreement.  To accomplish this timeline, the agreement was executed on August 15, 2018, thus requiring ratification.

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

Participating in the agreement allows the Lake Havasu City Police Department to assist the DEA Task Force in combating drug related activity in our community at no additional expense to the City.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Sufficient funds are appropriated in the General Government Grant Fund 299.
