COUNCIL COMMUNICATION

TO:                                          Honorable Mayor and Council

FROM:                     Pete Pilafas, Fire Chief

SUBJECT:Title

Adopt Resolution No. 24-3734 Approving Agreement for Clinical Practicum and/or Student Educational Experience with Mohave Community College (Chief Pilafas)

Body

FUNDING SOURCE:

N/A

PURPOSE:

To adopt a resolution approving the Mohave Community College Agreement for Clinical Practicum and/or Student Educational Experience.

BACKGROUND:

Mohave Community College's (MCC) EMS Program is interested in partnering with the Lake Havasu City Fire Department (LHCFD) to provide clinical practicum and/or educational experiences for students enrolled in the Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technicians Program. The LHCFD wishes to collaborate with MCC in delivering instruction to students pursuing certification as Paramedics/Emergency Medical Technicians through the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS).

MCC possesses the capability and resources necessary to provide students with the classroom and clinical experiences to earn their Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician certification. The LHCFD possesses the knowledge and resources necessary to provide students with the field experience required for certification. The proposed clinical agreement will meet these objectives.

The LHCFD staff supports the request to serve as EMS preceptors for MCC's Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician students and incorporate these responsibilities into their daily work schedule. The Fire Department's EMS Division will ensure that all preceptors are trained and serve as the designated liaison for the LHCFD.

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

The partnership with MCC’s EMS program serves to support the training and development of Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician students.

FISCAL IMPACT:

No additional funding is required; students will seamlessly integrate into the LHCFD's current staffing structure at no cost to the department or the City.
