COUNCIL COMMUNICATION

TO:                                          Honorable Mayor and Council

SUBJECT:Title

Body

FUNDING SOURCE:

Grant

General Fund Match of 10%

PURPOSE:

To adopt a resolution ratifying the submission of a Grant Application to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for funding from its Fiscal Year 2023 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program for a new fire engine and authorize all actions necessary to implement the grant.

BACKGROUND:

The Fiscal Year 2023 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program is one of three grant programs that constitute the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency’s focus on enhancing the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire and fire-related hazards. The AFG Program provides financial assistance directly to eligible fire departments, nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations, and State Fire Training Academies for critical training and equipment. There is a City match requirement of 10% of the federal funds awarded.

The Fire Department is seeking to apply for grant funding for a new fire engine.

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

This grant funding will enable the Fire Department to purchase a new fire engine.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The estimated total project cost is $1,300,000, and we are requesting grant funding in the amount of $1,181,818.82. This grant requires a City match of 10% ($118,181.18) of the federal funds awarded. The City would need to make this a priority for funding from the General Fund if the grant is awarded.
