COUNCIL COMMUNICATION

TO:                                          Honorable Mayor and Council

FROM:                     Mike Keane, Director of Parks and Recreation

SUBJECT:Title

Adopt Resolution No. 22-3616 Approving the Submission of a Grant Application to Arizona State Parks & Trails for Grant Funding from the State Lake Improvement Fund (SLIF) to Replace the Site 6 Boat Launch Ramp (Mike Keane)

Body

FUNDING SOURCE:

Grant

PURPOSE:

To adopt a resolution approving the submission of a grant application to Arizona State Parks & Trails for grant funding from the State Lake Improvement Fund (SLIF) to replace the Site 6 boat launch ramp.

BACKGROUND:

Arizona’s SLIF program was established in 1960 by the Arizona State Legislature under A.R.S. § 5-382 to assist state and local governments with funding projects on bodies of water where gasoline powered watercraft are permitted.  SLIF grant funding was swept by the State Legislature in 2008; however, this funding source is once again available beginning Fiscal Year 2022, with a total of $4 million available for distribution among competing agencies.

Lake Havasu City desires to enter into an agreement with Arizona State Parks & Trails for SLIF funding in the amount of $800,000 to replace the Site 6 boat launch ramp.  The project will consist of removing the existing deteriorating boat launch ramp and replacing it with a new boat launch ramp.

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

The Site 6 boat launch ramp is used by thousands of locals and out of town visitors annually.  Replacing this deteriorating boat launch ramp will improve all users’ experience launching their boats at this launch ramp.  Not only will the ramp’s incline be improved, but the drop off at the end of the ramp will also be improved.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Appropriation in the amount of $800,000 is available in the Fiscal Year 2022-23 Grant Fund.  The grant doesn’t require a match but a City cash match of $446,080 will be required in order to complete this project.
