COUNCIL COMMUNICATION

TO:                                          Honorable Mayor and Council

FROM:                     W. Mark Clark, Public Works Manager

SUBJECT:Title

Adopt Resolution No. 19-3278 Approving and Authorizing the City Manager to Execute the Intergovernmental Agreement with the Arizona Board of Regents, on Behalf of the University of Arizona, for the Arizona Project WET Program 2019 Water Festival (W. Mark Clark)

Body

FUNDING SOURCE:

Irrigation and Drainage District Fund

PURPOSE:

The City desires to enter into an Intergovernmental Agreement with the Arizona Board of Regents on behalf of the University of Arizona, in order to conduct the 2019 Water Festival under the Arizona Project WET Program, reimbursing the costs for the program.

BACKGROUND:

The Water Festival event is a continuing part of Lake Havasu City’s water conservation outreach program which also includes tours of the community’s facilities. This event reaches approximately 500 - 4th grade students each year and has been well received. This is done in cooperation with the Lake Havasu Unified School District. The event for the Arizona Project WET Program is a part of a statewide effort.  The program is held at the Island Ballfields which also provides an educational opportunity with regards to the fact that this location is served by reclaimed water from the adjacent wastewater treatment plant.

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

The Water Festival is an outreach educational event that is designed to engage and educate local teachers and students in proactive water conservation methods and strategies. In conjunction with other activities provided by the Water Resources Coordinator, Doyle Wilson and Water Conservation Specialist, Briana Morgan, this provides an important, kid friendly, action to help with future conservation and educational efforts.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The Water Division’s operational budget includes this item as a planned effort not to exceed $8,000.
