PURPOSE:
Adjust the salaries of the Mayor and City Councilmembers to reflect cities of comparable size.
BACKGROUND:
The last increase to Mayor and City Councilmembers’ salaries was done in 1995. Resolution No. 93-874 set the salaries, effective February 1, 1995, at $650 per month for City Councilmembers and $950 per month for Mayor.
At the May 3, 2018, budget work session, City staff was directed to bring forward an item to adjust the monthly salaries of the Mayor and City Councilmembers.
Based on Lake Havasu City being the 17th largest city in Arizona based on population, City staff surveyed communities ranked 12th to 20th in population to gauge the current salaries of Mayor and City Councilmembers in Arizona.
COMMUNITY IMPACT:
To adequately compensate Lake Havasu City’s elected officials.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds are available in the Fiscal Year 2019-20 budget.
