Adopt Resolution No. 18-3267 Ratifying the Submission of a Grant Application to the Department of Homeland Security for the Fiscal Year 2018 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program for the Purchase of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus; and Authorizing Execution of Necessary Documents and Implementation of the Activities Funded by the Grant (Brian Davis)

FUNDING SOURCE:

PURPOSE:

Ratify the submission of a grant application with the Department of Homeland Security for the purchase of new self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), commonly referred to as air packs.

 

BACKGROUND:

The primary goal of the Assistance of Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments, by allowing them to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.

 

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

The Department of Homeland Security’s AFG Program’s funding would enhance the safety of the public and firefighters and to provide support for emergency responders.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

Grant funds in the amount of $784,215, with matching funds of $78,421.

Matching funds are included in the budget for this fiscal year (299.2701.402.8027, Grant Matching Funds, $85,000).

SUGGESTED MOTION:Recommended Action

I move to adopt Resolution No. 18-3267 ratifying the submission of a grant application with the Department of Homeland Security for AFG funding for self-contained breathing apparatus; and authorize the City Manager to execute the grant agreement, deliver all documents necessary to carry out the terms and intent of the grant, and take all steps necessary to implement the funding required by the grant, subject to necessary review and approval by the City Attorney.
