Adopt Resolution No. 18-3262 Declaring and Adopting the Official Canvass of the Results of the Primary Election Held on August 28, 2018

PURPOSE:

To accept the results of the August 28, 2018, Primary Election as presented, canvassed, and declared official by the Mohave County Board of Supervisors.

 

BACKGROUND:

On Tuesday, August 28, 2018, Lake Havasu City held a Primary Election for the purpose of nominating one (1) Mayor and three (3) Councilmembers for the November 6, 2018, General Election, and submitting a question to propose a permanent base adjustment to the 1979-1980 Base Expenditure Limitation for Lake Havasu City. On Thursday, September 6, 2018, the Mohave County Board of Supervisors canvassed and declared the August 28, 2018, Primary Election returns official by Mohave County Resolution No. 2018-114.

 

The official results of the Lake Havasu City Primary Election were as follows:

                                                                                                         

The total number of ballots cast in the Lake Havasu City Primary Election was 13,891.

Any candidate who receives at the Primary Election, a number of votes constituting a majority of all the votes cast, shall be declared to be elected to the office for which that person is a candidate effective as of the date of the General Election.

 

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

Councilmembers are elected at large by the qualified electors of Lake Havasu City and are responsible for the overall policies and direction of the City.

SUGGESTED MOTION:Recommended Action

I move to adopt Resolution No. 18-3262 accepting the results of the August 28, 2018, Primary Election as presented, canvassed, and declared official by the Mohave County Board of Supervisors by their Resolution No. 2018-114.

Based on the certification of the Official Canvass of the August 28, 2018, Lake Havasu City Primary Election results, it is found, determined, and declared of record that Cal Sheehy was elected to the Office of Mayor in and for Lake Havasu City and is hereby issued a Certification of Election.

 

Based on the certification of the Official Canvass of the August 28, 2018, Lake Havasu City Primary Election results, it is found, determined, and declared of record that Jim Dolan, Jeni Coke, and Michele Lin were elected to the Office of Councilmember in and for Lake Havasu City and are hereby issued a Certification of Election.

 

Based on the certification of the Official Canvass of the August 28, 2018, Lake Havasu City Primary Election results, it is found, determined, and declared of record that Proposition 409 proposing a permanent base adjustment to the 1979-1980 Base Expenditure Limitation for Lake Havasu City passed.

 

All successful candidates in the Primary Election will take office on November 27, 2018.
