FROM:                     Daniel P. Doyle, Chief of Police

Adopt Resolution No. 18-3223 Approving the Submission of an Application for a Grant with United States Department of Justice for the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program (Daniel P. Doyle)

Body

FUNDING SOURCE:

Grant

PURPOSE:

Adopt resolution approving the submission of a grant application to the United States Department of Justice for Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP) Program funding in the amount of $15,865.65.

BACKGROUND:

The BVP Program provides funding to reimburse states, counties, federally recognized tribes, cities, and local jurisdictions up to 50% of the cost of body armor vests purchased for law enforcement officers.  If awarded, this grant will provide funding over the next two fiscal years for the purchase of ballistic vests for new officers and replacement vests for current officers whose vests will reach the five-year expiration date.

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

Since 2000, the Lake Havasu City Police Department has received BVP grant funding in the amount of $111,218.34, which is a direct savings to the General Fund.

FISCAL IMPACT:

It is estimated that 30 ballistic vests will need to be purchased or replaced during the next two fiscal years at a total cost of $31,731.30. BVP Program grant funding will be requested in the amount of $15,865.65, with appropriation for the remaining 50% of the costs included in the operating budget.
