COUNCIL COMMUNICATION

TO:                                          Honorable Mayor and Council

FROM:                     Jeremy Abbott, Assistant City Engineer

SUBJECT:Title

Adopt Resolution No. 18-3207 Approving the Submission of a Grant Request to the Mohave County Flood Control District to Facilitate Receiving FEMA Cooperating Technical Partners Grant Funding

Body

FUNDING SOURCE:

CIP-Flood Control

PURPOSE:

Adopt resolution approving the submission of a grant request to obtain grant funding through the Mohave County Flood Control District to collect and develop topographic, hydrologic and hydraulic data and update the flood risk models.

BACKGROUND:

As part of the Updated Lake Havasu City Risk Analysis and Mapping Project, the City intends to conduct aerial mapping of the City limits and use new topographic data to update previous Hydrologic & Hydraulic modeling and update current Flood Risk Products. Hydrologic & Hydraulic modeling update is limited to the modeling completed as part of the previous Risk MAP Project.

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

The updated information will be used to assess flood risk protection associated with levee-like structures within and outside City limits and confirm or even reprioritize the wash bank stabilization projects. The current aerials are over 12 years old and once updated will provide more current data to other City Departments and the community, such as realtors and contractors.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The total cost of the project is $150,000.  The City’s portion is a FEMA required 25% match ($37,500) and a 5% administrative fee ($7,500.00) for a total fiscal impact of $45,000.  Sufficient funds are available in the Flood Control Fund account 526-4110-421.31-11 in FY 18/19.
