COUNCIL COMMUNICATION

TO:                                          Honorable Mayor and Council

FROM:                     Mark Clark, Operations Manger

SUBJECT:Title

Approve Engineering Professional Services Agreement with CH2M Hill Engineers for Water Treatment Augmentation Feasibility Study

Body

FUNDING SOURCE:

Irrigation and Drainage District Fund

Grant - Arizona Water Infrastructure Finance Authority

PURPOSE:

To approve a Professional Services Agreement to conduct a feasibility study on the augmenting treatment processes at the City’s Water Treatment Plant.

BACKGROUND:

Lake Havasu City Council approved the WIFA Grant Agreement in January of 2018 to conduct a feasibility study at the water treatment plant to determine whether source water could be treated for decreasing water hardness and water salinity.  This communication is to approve and authorize the City Manager to sign an agreement with CH2M Hill to conduct the study.

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

Potential Community Impact is to improve municipal potable water quality, increased water use efficiency to extend the City’s water portfolio, decreased citizen costs if discontinued use of home water treatment technologies, and to improve treated wastewater quality that may be applied for multiple reuse applications.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The work budget from CH2M is $74,950.  The WIFA grant is $35,000 and the budgeted Irrigation and Drainage District fund, 521-4507-421.31-11 includes the difference of $39,950 for this study.
