Adopt Resolution No. 18-3198 Approving and Authorizing the Police Chief to Execute a Support Agreement with the Department of Veterans Affairs for the Provision of Law Enforcement Services

PURPOSE:
To adopt a resolution approving and authorizing the Police Chief to execute a support agreement with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for law enforcement services.
BACKGROUND:
The VA operates a Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Lake Havasu City but does not currently staff this facility with VA Police Officers. In the absence of VA Police Officers at this location, the VA is requesting this agreement to provide for specific law enforcement needs, including but not limited to:
• Response for any panic or intrusion alarm activation from the local clinic
• Response to crimes such as assaults, disturbances, robberies, etc.
Additionally, in the event any on duty VA Officer were involved in a shooting while at the Lake Havasu clinic, Lake Havasu City Police Department would establish, preserve, and control the crime scene pending the arrival of the lead investigative Federal Agency.
COMMUNITY IMPACT:
The Lake Havasu City Police Department will appropriately respond to all calls for service within our jurisdiction.
