PURPOSE:
To make a recommendation to the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses & Control regarding a Series #18 Distillery Liquor License application for Copper Still Distillery, 2005 West Acoma Boulevard, #G.
BACKGROUND:
Andrew Tigh Andersen has applied for a Series #18 liquor license for the above location. All posting requirements have been met and all fees have been paid.
Two (2) objections were received:
Zoning - This property is zoned LI, light Industrial. Light Industrial District allows warehouse and wholesale distribution which is the definition of a micro-brew/distillery; however, on premise “alcohol beverage sales” is not permitted in the district. The applicant has requested a tasting room and with the intent to sell from the property, which based on the current code, this activity cannot be allowed. Staff determined “alcohol beverage sales” not being permitted was an oversight within the new Development Code and will be addressing through a code amendment.
Fire - This property is a change of use for the location and does not have the proper fire sprinkler protection to comply with the current code standards for fire sprinklers. The applicant has the option of installing fire sprinklers but decided it would be too costly to do so.
Based on the above, staff recommends disapproval of this liquor license.
