COUNCIL COMMUNICATION

TO:                                          Honorable Mayor and Council

FROM:                     Steven Johnston, Airport Supervisor

SUBJECT:Title

Request to Rename Hangar Way to George Molitor Way

Body

FUNDING SOURCE:

Airport Fund

PURPOSE:

Rename Hangar Way to George Molitor Way in accordance with City Operation Policies and Procedures (O.P.P.) 7.01 Street Naming and Renaming.

BACKGROUND:

At the regular Airport Advisory Board (AAB) meeting held February 15, 2017, the Board voted to recommend that Hangar Way be renamed to George Molitor Way in recognition and honor of Mr. George Molitor, who provided varied and significant contributions to the Airport and community over the past 24 years.  Mr. Molitor established the local chapter of the Civil Air Patrol in 1984, promoted the organization in the community and schools; promoted the airport, was a co-founder of the local Experimental Aircraft Association, was instrumental in the location of the airport, and served on the AAB for many years.

In accordance with O.P.P. 7.01, the request was submitted to the Review Committee in the Operations Department, which analyzed the request and recommends approval.

This street segment is 200 feet long and serves no airport business, and there are no addresses on this street to be affected by the renaming.  It is located in the central aircraft hangar area at gate nine.

This proposal initially came before the AAB in 2016, but was held while O.P.P. 7.01 was being finalized.

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

The Lake Havasu City Airport is a vital economic and transportation hub in our community.  It plays a significant role in the local economy with nearly 100 direct jobs (both city and private) as well as bringing in many work-related visitors (military and civilian training).

FISCAL IMPACT:

Appropriations are available in the FY17/18 budget not to exceed $100 in account 551-5410-423.43-01

ATTACHMENTS:

SUGGESTED MOTION:Recommended Action
