PURPOSE:
To adopt a joint resolution with the Lake Havasu Unified School District No. 1 in support of a statewide, post-secondary attainment goal.
BACKGROUND:
The statewide attainment goal is a movement to increase the current educational attainment rate of 42% to 60%. The educational attainment rate reflects the percentage of individuals between the ages of 25-64 that have attained a professional certificate or college degree. The focus of Achieve60AZ is ensuring that 60% of Arizonans 25 years of age and older have a certificate or college degree by 2030. It is believed that reaching this goal will put Arizona on a path to prosperity.
Expect More Arizona and Center for the Future of Arizona are statewide, nonpartisan organizations that launched an Arizona Education Progress Meter. This meter will measure the progress on the attainment goal and other key education indicators. The indicators include the following data points: post-secondary attainment, post-high school enrollment, opportunity youth, high school graduation, 8th grade math, 3rd grade reading, preschool enrollment, and teacher pay.
The City and the District are committed to advance a world-class education for all Arizonan children and support the efforts of Expect More Arizona and Center for the Future of Arizona.
