Adopt Resolution No. 17-3128 Ratifying the Submission of a Grant Application to the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs for a State Emergency Council-Mitigation Opportunity for the Stabilization of Washes and Implementation of the Activities Funded - Hillsdale Drain 5

PURPOSE:

Ratify the submission of a grant application with the State of Arizona, Department of Emergency and Military Affairs (DEMA) for a Hazard Mitigation Project: Wash Stabilization - Hillsdale Drain 5.

 

BACKGROUND:

Due to a light disaster year, the State Emergency Fund anticipates a significant surplus on June 30, 2017.  Surplus emergency funds are obligated in the following fiscal year for mitigation projects.

 

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

This grant would provide unanticipated partial funding for a portion of the wash stabilization program.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

The total estimated project cost is $815,743.00 with grant funding of up to $203,936.00. The total project cost, without the grant funding, is included in the proposed FY 17/18 budget under the Wash Stabilization improvements.  If successful, the grant funding will offset the City’s cost for the project.

SUGGESTED MOTION:Recommended Action

I move to adopt Resolution No. 17-3128 ratifying the submission of a grant application to  the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs for a State Emergency Council-Mitigation Opportunity for the Stabilization of Washes; and authorize the City Manager to execute subsequent grant agreements, deliver all documents necessary to carry out the terms and intent of the grant, and take all steps necessary to implement the funding required by the grant, subject to necessary review and approval of the City Attorney.
