Adopt Resolution No. 17-3139 Authorizing the Submission of an Application for a FY 2017 Grant with the Bureau of Justice Statistics for the National Criminal History Improvement Program to Improve the Nation’s Safety and Security, and Authorizing Execution of Necessary Documents and Implementation of the Activities Funded by the Grant

PURPOSE:

Adopt a resolution authorizing the submission of an application for a FY 2017 grant with the Bureau of Justice Statistics for the National Criminal History Improvement Program.

 

BACKGROUND:

The funds are administered by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (“BJS”). BJS’s mission is to enchance the crime fighting and criminal justice capabilities of state and tribal governments by improving the accuracy, utility, and interstate accessiblility of criminal history records and enhancing records of protective orders involving domestic violence and stalking, automated identification systems and other state systems supporting national records systems and their use for criminal history background checks. The funds are to be used for clerk wages to review case files for accuracy and completeness.  

 

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

Strengthening the accuracy and proper documentation of defendants’ case files will enhance efficiency and therefore be able to provide better customer service to our community. 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

Federal bjs Grant funds in the amount of up to $56,131.00.  Matching (in kind or cash) of $6,236.00

SUGGESTED MOTION:Recommended Action

I move to adopt Resolution No. 17-3139 authorizing submission of an application for a FY 2017 grant with the Bureau of Justice Statistics for the National Criminal History Improvement Program to improve the nation’s safety and security, and authorize the City Magistrate to execute the application and subsequent grant agreements, deliver all documents necessary to carry out the terms and intent of the grant, and take all steps necessary to implement and complete the activities funded and required by the grant, subject to necessary review and approval by the City Attorney.
