Adopt Resolution No. 17-3122 Authorizing the Submission of a Grant Application with the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for DUI Enforcement Overtime

PURPOSE:

To approve the submission of a grant application to the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to fund DUI Enforcement Overtime.

 

BACKGROUND:

The State of Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) provides grant funding to reimburse personnel services (overtime) and associated employee related expenses to conduct DUI / impaired driving saturation patrols during major holidays or local special events.  This grant application is due by March 3, 2017, and if awarded will be effective for Federal Fiscal Year 2018, which runs from October 1, 2017 through September 30, 2018.

 

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

The Lake Havasu City Police Department has been awarded and utilized GOHS grant funding for this purpose for a number of years, resulting in an increase in safety throughout the community by removing impaired drivers from the roadway.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

Appropriation in the amount of $20,000.00 for this grant funding will be requested through the Fiscal Year 2017-2018 budget process.

SUGGESTED MOTION:Recommended ACtion

I move to adopt Resolution No. 17-3122 approving the submission of a grant application to the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for DUI Enforcement Overtime; and authorize the City Manager to execute subsequent grant agreements, deliver all documents necessary to carry out the terms and intent of the grant, and take all steps necessary to implement and complete the activities funded and required by the grant, subject to necessary review and approval by the City Attorney.
