PURPOSE:
Approve Amendment No. 1 to the Solid Waste Facilities Operation Agreement to extend the term to June 30, 2018.
BACKGROUND:
On July 26, 2012, the City entered into a Solid Waste Facilities Operation Agreement with Allied Waste Transportation, Inc. (“Agreement”), for the operation of the landfill.
The Agreement will expire June 30, 2017. Staff is currently working with a consultant to analyze the landfill, including obtaining a remaining lifespan. In order to allow sufficient time to complete the analysis and determine the best course of action moving forward, Staff recommends extending the agreement until June 30, 2018.
COMMUNITY IMPACT:
It is in the community’s best interest to maintain the current operations of the landfill while in the process of analyzing the landfill.
