PURPOSE:
To approve the cooperative purchase of a Zetron IP Based Fire Station Alerting System to replace the existing MOSCAD (Motorola SCADA) alerting system in accordance with City Code Section 3.10.010.5.A.1.
BACKGROUND:
A fire station alerting system is used to notify station personnel of an emergency through the use of a verbal and visual notification process. A station alert is initiated by dispatch and is the primary method used to notify the fire department for a response. The current MOSCAD system is VHF based and has been in place for approximately four decades. In recent years, one station system has failed and in recent months the sole backup system was “modified” to maintain alerting.
The department has intentionally delayed this purchase and has maintained the current VHF system to await the implementation of the new 800MHz radio system. The Zetron is an integrated unit intended for use with the upcoming dispatch center console and radio upgrades.
The quote for a Zetron IP Based Fire Station Alerting System, including installation and integration of the Zetron into new MCC7500 dispatch consoles (five positions), six fire stations, and a backup unit, with shipping, handling fees, and estimated taxes has been received at $82,256.95. This purchase is in accordance with City Code under State of Arizona Contract ADSPO13-036883.
COMMUNITY IMPACT:
This alerting system will integrate into the planned dispatch center upgrades and maintain efficient alerting of fire personnel for the foreseeable future.
FISCAL IMPACT:
$90,000.00 has been appropriated and is available in FY 2016/2017 Capital Outlay/Computer Related Equipment account 110.2213.402.6107.
