Adopt Resolution No. 16-3093 Declaring and Adopting the Official Canvass of the Results of Primary Election Held on August 30, 2016

PURPOSE:

To accept the results of the August 30, 2016, Primary Election as presented, canvassed, and declared official by the Mohave County Board of Supervisors.

 

BACKGROUND:

On Tuesday, August 30, 2016, Lake Havasu City held a Primary Election for the purpose of nominating three (3) Councilmembers for the November 8, 2016, General Election. On Thursday, September 8, 2016, the Mohave County Board of Supervisors canvassed and declared the August 30, 2016, Primary Election returns official by Mohave County Resolution No. 2016-121.

 

The official results of the Lake Havasu City Primary Election were as follows:

                                                                                                         

The total number of ballots cast in the Lake Havasu City Primary Election was 10,942.

 

Total votes cast for Office of Councilmember:

                      Brister-McCoy, Donna                      5,260

Any candidate who receives at the Primary Election, a number of votes constituting a majority of all the votes cast, shall be declared to be elected to the office for which that person is a candidate effective as of the date of the General Election.

 

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

Councilmembers are elected at large by the qualified electors of Lake Havasu City and are responsible for the overall policies and direction of the City.

SUGGESTED MOTION:Recommended Action

I move to adopt Resolution No. 16-3093 accepting the results of the August 30, 2016, Primary Election as presented, canvassed, and declared official by the Mohave County Board of Supervisors by their Resolution No. 2016-121.

 

(To Be Read By the City Clerk):

Based on the certification of the Official Canvass of the August 30, 2016, Lake Havasu City Primary Election results, it is found, determined, and declared of record that Donna Brister-McCoy and David Lane were elected to the Office of Councilmember in and for Lake Havasu City and are hereby issued a Certification of Election.

 

Further, based on the certification of the Official Canvass of the August 30, 2016, Lake Havasu City Primary Election results, it is found, determined, and declared of record, that a General Election will be held on November 8, 2016, to elect one (1) Councilmember. The following two (2) candidates received the highest number of votes and shall have the right to have their names placed upon the official ballot for the Office of Councilmember at the General Election:  Sylvia Clark and Gordon Groat.                   

 

All successful candidates in the Primary and General Elections will take office on November 22, 2016.
