COUNCIL COMMUNICATION

TO:                                          Honorable Mayor and Council

FROM:                     Ted Lamacki, Public Works Streets Superintendent

SUBJECT:Title

Discussion and Action: Resolution No. 26-3911 Approving the Intergovernmental Agreement with the State of Arizona, Department of Transportation, for Upgrades to Traffic Signal Cabinets at Lake Havasu Avenue and Mesquite Avenue, Lake Havasu Avenue and McCulloch Boulevard, and Lake Havasu Avenue and Swanson Avenue (Ted Lamacki)

Body

FUNDING SOURCE:

Federal Aid Funds and Highway User Revenue Funds (HURF) Exchange

PURPOSE:

To consider adopting a resolution approving an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with the State of Arizona, Department of Transportation (ADOT), for installation and traffic control services to upgrade the wiring and signal cabinets at Lake Havasu Avenue and Mesquite Avenue, Lake Havasu Avenue and McCulloch Boulevard, and Lake Havasu Avenue and Swanson Avenue.

BACKGROUND:

These three intersections have outdated traffic signal control cabinets, wiring, and equipment. Upgrading these three intersections to the most current technological systems gives the City the ability to repair, without delay, and provides safer and more efficient traffic flow for both motorists and pedestrians.

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

The upgrade of all three signals at the intersections of Lake Havasu Avenue and Mesquite Avenue, Lake Havasu Avenue, McCulloch Boulevard, and Lake Havasu Avenue and Swanson Avenue, will improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists, as well as allowing the City staff to diagnose and repair any issues much more efficiently.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The cost of the installation and traffic control is $203,692 covered with Federal Aid Funds through the HURF exchange. If the final project amount exceeds the initial estimate(s) identified in Exhibit A, the City is responsible for any and all actual costs exceeding the initial estimate, and funding will need to be identified at that time.
