Planning Commission 2026 General Plan Update Kickoff Meeting (Chris Gilbert)
Body
BACKGROUND:
Lake Havasu City is mandated by Arizona state law to update its General Plan every ten years to ensure that it aligns with the community's evolving needs and priorities. The General Plan serves as a critical framework for guiding future growth and development, covering key areas such as land use, transportation, housing, and public services.
The last comprehensive update to the City's General Plan was completed in 2016. Over the past decade, the City has experienced changes, including population growth, economic development, and community priorities. To address these changes and to provide a strategic vision for sustainable development, it is essential to undertake a thorough and collaborative update of the General Plan. To fulfill this requirement, the City hired Logan Simpson Design, Inc., to assist the City with this important project.
The City Council had its kickoff meeting on April 8, 2025, that included a presentation from Logan Simpson Design. The Council also approved the Public Education Plan for the General Plan update process by resolution. Both the Public Education Plan and the resolution are attached. The General Plan update is set for ratification during the November 2026 General Election.
Logan Simpson Design has a kickoff presentation for the Planning Commission at which time they will go over the update process and the various steps involved. Following the presentation, they will be available to answer any questions that the Commissioners may have about the process.
