SUBJECT:Title
Discussion and Action: Cooperative Purchase of a New Flygt Submersible Pump for the North Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility from James, Cooke & Hobson, Inc. (Keelan Yarbrough)
Body
FUNDING SOURCE:
Wastewater Fund
PURPOSE:
To consider approving the purchase of a new Flygt submersible pump for the North Regional Treatment Plant as outlined in the attached James, Cooke & Hobson, Inc. (JCH) Quote #070126-1EGM, via the City of Chandler’s Cooperative Agreement (Contract 500207), and in accordance with City Code §§ 3.10.010.3(A)(1), 3.10.010.3(A)(21), and 3.10.030.1.
BACKGROUND:
The wastewater treatment process treats wastewater through a series of biological processes commonly known as the activated sludge process. One critical component to this process is the necessity to return partially treated wastewater known as “mixed liquor”, from the treatment train, back to the head of the treatment process to mix with raw influent - which is naturally high in ammonia nitrogen. This return process begins the biological breakdown of ammonia nitrogen into nitrates and oxidizes nitrates into free releasing nitrogen gas. The ability to convey mixed liquor from the treatment train to the head of the plant is accomplished with the pump presented and proposed for purchase and has been in service since 2006 reaching the end of its useful life.
COMMUNITY IMPACT:
Replacement of this pump ensures reliable, safe, & effective treatment of Havasu’s wastewater, and underscores our ability to maintain strict regulatory standards allowing us to continue to recharge, replenish, refresh, & reuse our most precious water resource.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds for this purchase are allocated and available in the Wastewater Utility Fund Fiscal Year 2026-27 budget in the amount of $169,851 (plus applicable taxes).
