Discussion and Action: Resolution No. 26-3895 Ordering and Calling the 2026 Primary and General Elections, Designating the Deadline for Voter Registration, and Designated the Place and Last Date for Candidates to File Nomination Papers (Kelly Williams)

PURPOSE:

To adopt a resolution designating certain dates, deadlines, purpose of elections, and location to file nomination papers relative to the 2026 Lake Havasu City Primary and General Elections. 

 

BACKGROUND:

The attached resolution designates Tuesday, July 21, 2026, as the date for holding the Primary Election in Lake Havasu City for the purpose of nominating candidates for one (1) mayor and three (3) councilmember positions.

 

Lake Havasu City will also hold its General Election on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, for the purpose of ratifying the 2026 General Plan. Any candidates receiving a majority of all votes cast at the Primary Election will be declared elected without running in the General Election.

 

In order to be qualified for voting, electors must be registered by June 22, 2026, for the Primary Election and October 5, 2026, for the General Election.

 

Candidates seeking office for councilmember may obtain nomination petitions and other materials at the City Clerk's Office. Candidates must file nomination papers and other required forms by the deadline of 5:00 p.m. on March 23, 2026, in order for their names to appear on the Primary Election ballot.

FISCAL IMPACT:

$197,500 has been requested in the proposed Fiscal Year 2026-27 budget to fund the 2026 Primary and General Elections.
