PURPOSE:
The purpose of this discussion item is to provide City Council with an update on the recent session of the State Legislature as well as a summary of advocacy efforts on behalf of the City’s legislative priorities.
BACKGROUND:
The City’s contract lobbyists, League of Arizona Cities and Towns staff, and City staff monitor and review proposed legislation and work collaboratively to inform legislators, legislative staff, the Governor’s Office, and other stakeholders about potential impacts to the City. The City’s interests are also represented through its partnership with the League of Arizona Cities and Towns.
The City contracts with Nick Simonetta of Pivotal Policy Group to provide legislative advocacy and monitoring services, with a focus on legislation that may impact the City’s interests, operations, and established legislative priorities.
COMMUNITY IMPACT:
The City is represented on matters before the Arizona State Legislature and remains informed of proposed legislation that may positively or negatively impact the City and its residents. The City also monitors potential grant opportunities and other sources of revenue enhancement and works closely with City staff and the League of Arizona Cities and Towns to advance the City’s interests and legislative priorities.
