COUNCIL COMMUNICATION

TO:                                          Honorable Mayor and Council

FROM:                     Troy Stirling, Chief of Police

PURPOSE:

To consider adopting a resolution approving a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) for use of Lake Havasu City Police Department’s (LHCPD) radio system.

BACKGROUND:

In 2015, LHCPD upgraded the radio system to an 800 MHz Project 25 (P25) Trunked Radio and MCC7500 Dispatch System.  P25 develops standards for interoperable land mobile radio systems enabling emergency responders to exchange critical communications between agencies/jurisdictions.  The City has made significant investments in its 800 MHz trunked radio system to ensure reliable, secure, and interoperable communications for public safety operations.  This system supports mission-critical voice communications and allows for seamless collaboration between agencies.  The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office has recently procured Motorola APX NEXT radios, which are fully compatible with the City’s 800 MHz radio infrastructure, and is requesting to piggyback on our system in order to enhance regional coordination and public safety response efforts.

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

This MOU will enhance officer safety and interoperability, facilitate mutual aid responses, and improve public safety coordination.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This MOU does not have a fiscal impact at this time; however, MCSO will be responsible for any direct costs associated with MCSO’s use of the LHCPD radio system.
