FUNDING SOURCE:

PURPOSE:

To consider adoption of a resolution ratifying the submission of a grant application for Victims of Crime Act funds for award period October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2026.

BACKGROUND:

The Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) was signed into law in 1984. VOCA created a fund, administered by the United States Department of Justice, for victim assistance grants to the states. Federal funding received for victim services programs varies from year to year, depending on the amount of federal fines collected, using no tax dollars.  Programs that are operated by a public agency or a nonprofit organization, which provide services to victims of crime, are eligible to apply.

The City has received this grant for many years and it provides funding for victim services provided by the Victim Services Specialist in the City Attorney’s Office.

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

Providing assistance to victims of crime in Lake Havasu City.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Funds are allocated and available in the Fiscal Year 2025-26 budget. The Arizona Department of Public Safety VOCA grant award will offset a portion of the general fund expenses related to the Victim Services Specialist.
