PURPOSE:

To consider adopting a resolution supporting the invitation to Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of power generation at Davis Dam and attend an Intergovernmental Summit of Local Leaders to discuss regional land and water issues.

BACKGROUND:

Davis Dam is a significant asset to Mohave County and the Colorado River Valley.  On January 8, 1951, Secretary of the Interior Fred A. Seaton officially activated the power generation at Davis Dam, marking a significant milestone in the development of the Colorado River Valley.  Davis Dam remains a critical part of the Colorado River Valley’s energy and water management systems, serving communities across the region.

Local and regional governments from Arizona and Nevada, in collaboration with local leaders, are organizing celebrations and events to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the completion and activation of Davis Dam.  The Colorado River Valley, including the Mohave County Board of Supervisors, formally invited Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum to Mohave County to commemorate the 75th anniversary of power generation at Davis Dam and to attend an Intergovernmental Summit of Local Leaders to discuss regional land and water issues.

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

Supporting local and regional collaboration and recognition of critical issues surrounding land, water, and shared resource management in the Colorado River Basin.
