COUNCIL COMMUNICATION

TO:                                          Honorable Mayor and Council

FROM:                     Thilak Fernando, Wastewater Superintendent

SUBJECT:Title

Discussion and Action: Cooperative Purchase of a Flygt Submersible Sewage Pump through James, Cooke & Hobson, Inc. (Thilak Fernando)

Body

FUNDING SOURCE:

Wastewater Fund

PURPOSE:

To consider the purchase of a Flygt submersible sewage pump with closed loop cooling through James, Cooke & Hobson, Inc., (Contract 500207) utilizing the City of Chander, Arizona Contract No. PW2-936-4357, for Water and Wastewater Equipment Maintenance and Repair Services in accordance with City Code §§ 3.10.010.3 (A)(1) and 3.10.030.1.

BACKGROUND:

The Public Works Department (Water and Wastewater Divisions) utilize cooperative agreements for pump equipment maintenance and repair services. James, Cooke & Hobson, Inc., is the exclusive representative for Arizona municipalities for pumps, blowers and parts for Flygt and Kaeser, and is the exclusive factory authorized service and repair facility for Flygt pumps. Wastewater has 60 in-service pumps and blowers of these brands currently in use.

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

Utilizing the cooperative purchase agreements for various water and wastewater equipment maintenance, parts and repair service provides greater efficiency and economies of scale through leveraged pricing. Having a functioning main submersible sewage pump is critical to the City’s North Regional Treatment Plant’s daily operations.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Funds in the amount of $150,699 plus applicable taxes are allocated and available in the Fiscal Year 2025-26 Public Works budget utilizing Wastewater Utility Funds.
