COUNCIL COMMUNICATION

TO:                                          Honorable Mayor and Council

FROM:                     Jason Hart, Capital Programs Manager

SUBJECT:Title

Discussion: Progress Report on the Second Bridge Project Design (Jason Hart)

Body

FUNDING SOURCE:

CIP-Grant - Legislative Funding

PURPOSE:

An opportunity for Public Works and NV5, our third-party design professionals, to provide an update on the Second Bridge Project design to the City Council.

BACKGROUND:

Through legislative appropriation, championed by State Representative Leo Biasiucci and former State Senator Sonny Borrelli, $35.5 million is available for the design and construction of a second bridge connecting the Island to the mainland in Lake Havasu City, for the purpose of improving safety and providing for an additional emergency evacuation route.

The Second Bridge project footprint runs from South Palo Verde Boulevard, down London Bridge Road, and across the Bridgewater Channel to McCulloch Boulevard. The Project design consists of bridge design, planning for new and existing streets to and from the bridge, and the relocation of utility lines placed under the new bridge and streets.

The City has contracted with NV5 to design this Project.  NV5 has developed the proposed bridge and street alignments as well as they have performed an analysis of the intersections that will connect the new streets to the existing streets.

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

A second bridge and roadways to the bridge will improve safety and provide an additional emergency evacuation route.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Funds were allocated to the Second Bridge Project utilizing funding from the 2023 Legislative Appropriation Transportation Projects Grant.
