PURPOSE:
To consider adopting a resolution approving the submission of a grant application to the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to fund projects related to aspects of highway safety.
BACKGROUND:
The Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) provides grant funding for projects relating to all aspects of highway safety. The Lake Havasu City Police Department desires to submit a grant application for Police Traffic Services (PTS) funding in the amount of $30,000 for reimbursement of personnel services (overtime) and associated employee related expenses and $8,000 for the purchase of three (3) Lidar units to conduct enhanced traffic enforcement throughout the community.
The grant application deadline is March 7, 2025, and if awarded it will be effective for Federal Fiscal Year 2026, which begins October 1, 2025, and ends September 30, 2026.
COMMUNITY IMPACT:
The Lake Havasu City Police Department has been awarded and utilized GOHS grant funding for several years for DUI/traffic enforcement and traffic equipment, resulting in increased safety throughout the community while easing the burden on General Fund resources.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Appropriation in the amount of $38,000 will be requested through the Fiscal Year 2025-26 budget process. There is no City match requirement for this grant.

SUGGESTED MOTION:Recommended Action
I move to adopt Resolution No. 25-3807 approving the submission of a grant application to the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety; and authorize the City Manager to execute the grant agreement, deliver all documents necessary to carry out the terms and intent of the grant, and take all steps necessary to implement and complete the activities funded and required by the grant, subject to necessary review and approval by the City Attorney.
