PURPOSE:

To consider adopting a resolution approving the Intergovernmental Agreements (IGAs) with the La Paz County Sheriff’s Office and Kingman Fire Department for Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) Policy Routing Function (PRF) Backup.

BACKGROUND:

The State of Arizona is responsible for the overall administration of 9-1-1 systems throughout the State, and they are currently implementing the NextGen 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) Project which is a statewide effort to modernize the 9-1-1 system in Arizona.  As a part of this effort, the State is requiring formal agreements be established between participating agencies regarding backup call-handling responsibilities in the event a primary PSAP is unable to receive or process 9-1-1 calls due to planned or unplanned outages, staffing shortages, or other emergencies.  The La Paz County Sheriff’s Office and Kingman Fire Department have requested the Lake Havasu City Police Department to perform a backup role for their respective agencies.

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

These IGAs ensure continuity of critical emergency communications services in the event the La Paz County Sheriff’s Office or Kingman Fire Department’s PSAP is unable to receive or process 9-1-1 calls.
