SUBJECT:TITLE
Discussion and Action: Resolution No. 26-3951 Naming the Second Bridge the “Freedom Bridge” and the New Street “Freedom Avenue” (Jess Knudson)

PURPOSE:
To consider the adoption of a resolution formally naming Lake Havasu City’s second bridge connecting the Island to the mainland the “Freedom Bridge” and naming the new street over the bridge “Freedom Avenue.”
BACKGROUND:
Through a legislative appropriation championed by State Representative Leo Biasiucci and former State Senator Sonny Borrelli, Lake Havasu City received $35.5 million for the design and construction of a second bridge connecting the Island to the mainland. The project will improve safety and provide an additional emergency evacuation route for the Island.
The name “Freedom Bridge” has long been associated with the second bridge project, though it has not previously been formally adopted by the City Council. Formalizing the name provides an opportunity to honor the generations of veterans and service members whose courage, sacrifice, and commitment have helped preserve the freedoms we enjoy today. “Freedom Bridge” will serve as a lasting symbol of gratitude and respect for their service and reflect Lake Havasu City’s strong appreciation for its veterans, service members, and military community.
COMMUNITY IMPACT:
There is no direct community impact associated with formally naming the bridge and street. The action establishes the official names of “Freedom Bridge” and “Freedom Avenue.”
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact associated with the adoption of this resolution.
