PURPOSE:
To consider authorization of cumulative, cooperative purchases greater than the City Manager’s expenditure threshold with Cintas Corporation No. 2 (Contract 500491) for fire extinguisher service, kitchen hood suppression systems, fire suppression systems, first aid kits, and related fire and life-safety services utilizing OMNIA Partners Master Agreement No. 001299, in accordance with City Code §§ 3.10.010.3(A)(1) and 3.10.030.1.
BACKGROUND:
OMNIA Partners issued a Cooperative Purchase Contract No. 001299 effective May 31, 2023, with Cintas Corporation, for fire extinguisher service, kitchen hood suppression systems, fire suppression systems, first aid kits, and related fire and life-safety services.
Public Works Facilities Maintenance uses Cintas for routine inspections, testing, maintenance, repairs, replacement equipment, and related service for fire extinguishers, kitchen hood suppression systems, fire suppression systems, and first aid kits at City facilities. The City’s fire suppression systems underwent the required five-year inspection this spring. During that inspection, a number of deficiencies and maintenance issues were identified that required repair or replacement in order to bring the systems into full compliance.
Cintas has been actively completing the necessary repairs and replacing components identified during the inspection. Because this inspection uncovered several items that had accumulated over time, the current repair and maintenance costs are higher than what would normally be expected during a routine inspection cycle.
Once all identified deficiencies have been corrected and the fire suppression systems are fully compliant, future inspections and routine maintenance are expected to be significantly less expensive, as the systems will be maintained on a regular schedule and issues can be addressed before they develop into larger or more costly repairs.
COMMUNITY IMPACT:
Routine inspections, maintenance, repairs, and replacement of fire and life-safety equipment help protect employees, the public, and City assets. Maintaining these systems in compliant and serviceable condition reduces risk and supports emergency readiness throughout City facilities.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds are allocated and available in the Facilities Maintenance Division’s Fiscal Year 2026-27 budget.
