PURPOSE:
To consider approving the City Magistrate Employment Contract and term of employment commencing July 1, 2025, and continuing in effect until June 30, 2027, unless terminated as provided in the Contract.
BACKGROUND:
Mitchell Kalauli has served as City Magistrate since May 14, 2011. Upon a favorable evaluation on May 27, 2025, the City wishes to continue the employment of Mitchell Kalauli as City Magistrate. This contract and employment agreement commences on July 1, 2025, and continues in effect through June 30, 2027.
COMMUNITY IMPACT:
The City Magistrate performs all duties and shall have all powers and authority granted to the City Magistrate in the City Code Chapter 2.56 and as otherwise requested by the City or provided for under applicable state law. The City Magistrate shall devote the time necessary to administer the City Municipal Court.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds in the amount of $203,051 annually, plus benefits would be allocated and available with the adoption of the Fiscal Year 2025-26 budget. For Fiscal Year 2026-27, the annual salary is eligible for an annual step increase equivalent to what other City employees receive if the annual salary is below market determined by a salary survey performed by Human Resources and only in the event other City employees receive a step increase.
