COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
TO: Honorable Mayor and Council
FROM: Jason Hart, Capital Program Manager
SUBJECT:Title
Discussion and Action: Change Order No. 1 to the Construction Contract for the Replacement and Refurbishment of Horizontal Collector Well Pumps and Piping Project with Layne Christensen Company (Jason Hart)
Body
FUNDING SOURCE:
CIP - Water Utility Fund
PURPOSE:
To consider approval of Change Order No. 1 for the Replacement and Refurbishment of Horizontal Collector Well Pumps and Piping Project (Contract 500434) in accordance with City Code §§ 3.10.010.2 (Title 34 Procurement) and 3.10.020.6(B)(2).
BACKGROUND:
Bids were opened on October 16, 2024, for this project and City Council awarded the base bid project to Layne Christensen Company in the amount of $880,769.68. The additional alternates were not awarded at that time; however, having them in the original bid schedule established a price for each if a need arose to move forward with either alternate. It has been determined that one pump does need to be refurbished, and the 20-inch tee does need to be replaced. It is vital that both items be done to ensure the Horizontal Collector Well operates correctly. The awarded contractor is honoring the additional alternate pricing from their original bid.
COMMUNITY IMPACT:
This project will provide for a continued robust water supply and ensure that the Horizontal Collector Well’s downtime during this rehabilitation project is maximized due to the specific work being performed as identified.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funding in the amount of $220,562.25 is allocated and available in the Fiscal Year 2025-26 Capital Improvement Plan utilizing Water Utility Funds.
