PURPOSE:
Adopt a resolution approving a Highway Safety Contract for DUI/Impaired Driving Enforcement.
BACKGROUND:
The State of Arizona, Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS), awarded funds to Lake Havasu City to support personnel services (overtime) and employee related expenses.
The Lake Havasu City Police Department continually strives to find innovative methods to combat DUI/impaired driving. In the past, the department has utilized GOHS grant funding to conduct DUI saturation patrols during major holidays and special events, resulting in the removal of several impaired drivers from the roads.
With this grant funding, the department will specifically and aggressively focus on DUI/impaired driving enforcement through the use of additional personnel services (overtime). By September 30, 2016, the department will conduct a minimum of four (4) DUI/Impaired Driving saturation patrols during major holidays.
COMMUNITY IMPACT:
These grant funds allow for enhanced DUI/impaired driving enforcement throughout Lake Havasu City.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Grant funding in the amount of $20,000. No matching funds required.

SUGGESTED MOTION:Recommended Action
I move to adopt Resolution No. 15-2988 approving the Highway Safety Contract with the State of Arizona, Governor's Office of Highway Safety, for DUI/Impaired Driving Enforcement and authorize the City Manager to execute the Contract on behalf of the City.
