PURPOSE:
To consider the introduction of an ordinance to repeal the Airport Advisory Board City Code Sections from Chapter 11.08.
BACKGROUND:
The Airport Division has been looking at how they can modernize/improve the overall operations of the Airport. This effort includes communication and transparency with Airport users and the community. The go forward plan is to offer regular, open, and transparent communication outreach meetings with the community on Airport items of interest. These meetings will be ongoing through scheduled and announced informal forums conducted by the Airport Manager at the Airport. Early efforts of this type of meeting have resulted in freer flowing dialogue and has proven to be an effective tool in giving voice to the Airport community of interest, as well as an information conduit for the community on activities and projects influencing the Airport’s operations and modernization efforts. The Airport Manager held these forums on May 23 and August 14, 2024. These forums, as well as regular Airport Manager updates to the Council, and the creation of other avenues for Airport stakeholders and community of interest members to have a voice in exploring solutions to challenges facing the Airport will serve as an effective modernization of the Airport Advisory Board (AAB) concept.
The AAB was originally established in 1987 and was amended several times over the years. The current AAB concept is codified in Article X, Airport Advisory Board, Ord. 11-1044, passed June 14, 2011. The last AAB meeting was held on November 16, 2022, although no business was conducted. The last AAB meeting when business was conducted was April 20, 2022. For more than two years, there have been no agenda items necessary for the AAB to consider in its role of advising the City Council and each scheduled monthly meeting was cancelled.
COMMUNITY IMPACT:
Engage and inform citizens about the Airport and all its activities and developments.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No fiscal impact with the presentation of this item.
