Body
FUNDING SOURCE:
Water Utility Fund
PURPOSE:
To approve an agreement (500584) for professional services (design) for the Water Treatment Plant Improvement Project (Project No. 108025) in accordance with City Code Section 3.10.010.2 (Technical Registrant) and 3.10.030.1.
BACKGROUND:
The 2019 Water Master Plan, completed by Jacob’s Engineering Group in July of that year, recommended that the City upgrade the existing chlorine disinfection system from a gaseous chlorine to a liquid sodium hypochlorite.
In August 2024, Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc., was selected by the City to design a new liquid chlorine system and an evaluation of chlorine needs. The design contract will also include a new conditioned masonry building to house the new chlorination system. Staff has negotiated a design price of $347,210.
COMMUNITY IMPACT:
The upgrade of the existing chlorine disinfection system from a gaseous chlorine to liquid sodium hypochlorite will improve the overall safety of the system from a maintenance standpoint, be a more user-friendly system, allow for more readily available parts and continue to be a low-cost system.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds in the amount of $347,210 are allocated and available in the Fiscal Year 2024-25 Capital Improvement Plan utilizing Water Utility Funds for the Water Treatment Plant Improvements Project.
