Body

FUNDING SOURCE:

Grant Funds - $750,000

General Fund - $150,000

PURPOSE:

Adopt a resolution authorizing the submission of an application for Community Development Block Grant State Special Projects (SSP) funding for an Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Project and authorizing all actions necessary to implement and complete the activities outlined in the application.

BACKGROUND:

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program provides flexible funding for various community development activities aimed at neighborhood revitalization, economic development, and improving community facilities and services. On March 4, 2024, the City’s Grants Division hosted a public hearing in the City Council Chambers. Attendees focused on building Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible spaces within Lake Havasu City. The proposed project seeks to enhance ADA accessibility at Rotary Park, located at 1400 Smoketree Avenue. This public improvement, benefiting people with special needs and disabilities, involves installing an ADA Splash Pad, ADA seating, bathroom, sidewalks, and shading. Lake Havasu City intends to apply for FY2023-2024 CDBG SSP funds for ADA accessibility.

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

The community of Lake Havasu City is committed to providing accessible recreational opportunities for all residents and visitors. Our initiative to develop ADA-compliant beachfront and water access, along with an ADA splash pad and seating areas, underscores this commitment. We believe that ensuring full accessibility in our parks and waterfronts enhances the quality of life for individuals with disabilities and promotes health, wellness, and social engagement.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Funds in the amounts of $750,000 from Grants and $150,000 from the General Fund - Parks and Recreation Department have been allocated in the Fiscal Year 2024-25 budget. The total project cost is $900,000.
