SUBJECT:Title
Lake Havasu City Second Bridge Feasibility Study Update (Ron Foggin)
Body
FUNDING SOURCE:
The State of Arizona funded the feasibility study for the Second Bridge.
PURPOSE:
The Second Bridge Feasibility Study was implemented to ensure the second bridge project could be completed for $35.5 million. The study will also provide costs estimates for different bridge designs, and road connections as well as traffic counts to support a two or four lane bridge.
BACKGROUND:
Lake Havasu City received $35.5 million from the State of Arizona to design and build a second bridge. As part of this dedicated funding, the State gave the City $200,000 to complete a Second Bridge Feasibility Study. The State wanted to make sure the second bridge could be completed for $35.5 million.
The intent of the study is to identify preliminary design options, constraints and cost estimates that will allow the improvement to advance to design and construction. Typical sections, alignments, profiles, and technical reports will be prepared for the roadway and bridge improvements for a continuous corridor between the mainland and the island.
The City went through an RFSQ process to select a firm to complete a Second Bridge Feasibility Study. Firms were interviewed and Michael Baker International, Inc., was selected to do the study.
The Michael Baker team has been working to gather all the required information for the study. They have conducted traffic counts, met with stakeholders including State Parks and ADOT, held public input meetings, put together different bridge designs and road alignments, and developed cost estimates for all the different options. The Michael Baker team is now ready to present the different design options with associated costs to the City Council.
Once the Michael Baker team receives feedback from the City Council, they will work to finish the feasibility study. The team will complete the study and provide it to the City by the end of June 2024.
COMMUNITY IMPACT:
The Second Bridge Feasibility Study will help the City move forward with the design and construction of a second bridge. This project will have a positive impact on the community by improving traffic flow on and off the island as well as providing additional emergency access to the island.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The State of Arizona provided $200,000 for the feasibility study and this presentation to the City Council was included in Michael Baker International’s scope of work.
